My Two Cents

A strong, thriving community is where we all want to live. We want our kids to have friends. We want our families to feel safe and enjoy a supportive environment. Omaha provides this community for most who are willing to seek it, but what if you or a loved one are living with a chronic, isolating disease?

Nebraskans living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease, face many challenges…uncertainty, debilitating pain, lost time at work or school, depression, surgery, and the list goes on. For many people, these challenges can be faced with confidence, not only because of the tremendous medical treatment advancements over the past 10 years, but also because of the strong, thriving community of support from all of those living with these diseases.

The Crohn’s and colitis community in Omaha is special. Parents support parents. Young adults support seniors. Kids become life-long friends. This community is fostered by our work at the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Nebraska/Iowa Chapter. We host support groups, education events, pediatric/family social events, Take Steps walks, Night of Champions Gala, spin4 crohn’s & colitis cures, Team Challenge endurance events and Camp Oasis for kids. These events are critical to connect the community facing these diseases and the funds raised create an empowering opportunity to drive our mission forward so we can put an end to Crohn’s and colitis.

The mission of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is to cure these diseases and improve the quality of life for adults and children living with them. We seek to accomplish this mission through the aforementioned events and the community supports this at a very high level in greater Omaha, especially in the past 5+ years where our local chapter has grown fundraising revenue by 99%.
